#156: 5/26/25

Random Acts of Violet
Spring is definitely here, although it still gets a bit chilly at night. No more snow, fortunately.

I uncovered my peppers this morning. I have lost a few; but hopefully the ones that are left will fill in the spots. I may find some more seeds and attempt to sprout more plants myself. If it warms up and dries out soon they should start growing more.

Still getting used to those 4 10 hour days. By Saturday afternoon I'm exhausted. I can only hope I will get into the rhythm again soon.

Is there such a thing as too many plants? I used to think such an idea blasphemy at the very least. I keep inheriting plants that need a home, or at least some TLC, or cuttings that need to go to other places. I had taken my grow light down; yesterday I had to break it out again. Obviously I need more shelves. Preferably wire ones that won't get damaged if the plants spill a little water.

Awwww.....
I am happy to announce the birth of some goslings. So far I count 5, although there are several couples in the area. I also spotted a mallard last week cruising down the creek, so we may have ducklings as well. It's easy to overlook the mess and noise that the geese create; here you don't have to deal with them year round (like you do down south) so you get a break from them in winter.

At any rate, the critters are out and about. The marmots have come out of hiding, and the chipmunks are awake.  The herd of deer that meander across the hikers' parking lot have made their appearance.  From somewhere upstream, the current batch of little baby trout have stopped by to wave their little fins at he early tourists that even now show up all daylight hours.

You can't seee meeee 🐞
And of course, the insects are out. There are what seem to be a million ladybugs and ants. Bumble bees and other bee-like bugs are getting busy at the early flowers that are blooming. Pretty soon the butterflies will be showing up to dance around the mudpuddles and (unfortunately) get run over by cars leaving the Roughlock parking lot.

So far the season is going smoothly; although I expect it to be insanely busy, as it has been fairly steady so far even with the overcast and gloomy days full of rain.

Unfortunately, the abundance of rainy days has meant that I have gone through almost all of my unread book stash that I started collecting back in October. I will have to start ordering books again once I get paid again, and after I pay off some bills.

In other news, my roommate won... a Roomba. Well, more like a knockoff of the floor vacuum brand. Still, it works. The first time I ran it, it stopped half way and announced that it needed its roller cleaned. This didn't surprise me since I usually have to clean the one on the upright one.

Here it is, figuring out it can't go down the stairs.

I plan on sticking googly eyes on the thing. I actually got some last week, but didn't realize how, well, BIG they were. I ordered a smaller set and stuck these in the window instead.

🎶I always feel like, somebody's watchin' meee🎵
Currently waiting to see how many people notice that the windows gots eyes!

More updates coming soon!
