Monday rolled around early, although not so bright. It was, as is often the case the last few weeks in April, raining and/or snowing. In this case it was pouring outside.
Here I am, a bit dazed and confused. I hung out for a few minutes with a couple of the Mickleson trail folks, til my boss and the receptionist arrived."Go check things out", my boss said. "See if anything needs to be fixed on the trails."
"Sure," I say , looking out at the curtains of rain falling outside. At least it isn't snowing, I think.
Several hours later I'm back in the truck, soaking wet. My jacket, which I had assumed to be at least water-resistant if not waterproof, was apparently neither. I cranked up the old truck and put the heat on full blast. While it wasn't terribly cold at the moment, I knew it could get that way pretty quickly.
.................Sure enough, after about 30 minutes, a little bit of snow began mixing in with the rain.
Soon it was all snow, big clumps of the white stuff turning the parking lot and the grass a cold shade of white.
By 1 PM I had pretty much given up; I had everything done that I had needed to do that day, and everything was cold now. Back to the office! At least I wasn't missing too much time.
So began my first day of the summer season.
I survived my first week though, and got to enjoy my weekend.
I got up this morning, and noticed a couple of my pepper plants were starting to grow *flowers*. I took this as a sign I needed to get them out from under the grow light, and get them in the ground outside.
Well, get them into the cattle tank converted into a raised bed anyhow. It still isn't as warm at night as I would like but I'm hoping since the plants are still small the sides of the tank will protect them til they're bigger.
Next week: Our volunteers arrive! I can't wait to get them all moved in and hooked up. Last week we scrambled to get the site all set up for them, my roomie pumped their septic tank and after much pestering the water got connected up. Stay tuned!
Aye,
Kraneia
