#28: winding down

Imagine trying to find shoes for this lil guy.
I have a suspicion it's going to be a hard winter here in badhairland. For one thing, I am seeing things in the house I normally don't see. I caught this fellow lurking on the stove this morning.  I suspect he took a wrong turn at Albuquerque when he wandered in. Centipedes generally like cool, damp spaces and the house is rather warm and dry in winter.  While it's part and parcel living in the woods in the middle of nowhere, you don't see them indoors much.

The other evening I caught a couple of camel crickets. Or I caught the same one twice; I am not sure. I caught one and put it outside and almost stepped on another one--or it may have been the same one and it hitched a ride back indoors.

Either way, it had Too. Many. Legs. So out it/they had to go!

In other news, Moss II is now done. Yesterday was somewhat warmish, so I was able to go down to the creek and poke around for small flat rocks to complete the outer edges. Also had to fill in a couple bare spots with some moss, where it hadn't reached yet, and swept the leaves away. I suspect I will have to remove leaves again soon as the trees aren't quite finished dropping what they have. Now I need a new outdoor project to work on! I will have a few weeks to think about it, as the weather has gotten a little too chilly to really spend outside. But on nice days, I will have a sunny spot to read.....  or a quiet place to watch the stars, once I bundle up....

Care to join me in the sun?

I am finding on days when it is above freezing and the sun is out, I can turn off the heat and open the front door and let that ambient heat keep the house somewhat warmish. I don't know if that will help the electricity bill any, but since I like things a little cool anyway, it may help.

Thanksgiving came and went. It was fairly quiet and simple. We did little sandwiches (we had turkey but some other stuff, too) and just nibbled all day. The  neighbors were otherwise preoccupied (so they were taken care of) so it was just me and the roomie.

All set for Yule.

Now that turkey day is down and out, we can concentrate on the whole Christmas thing. The technicolor trailer™ is now up and running, and the wildlife now has something to look at at night.  There were no jokes about running the lights across the roof this year, surprisingly.

Also have the dresser all dolled up for the season. My little owl Artemis happily came to perch on a branch. Whooo's ready for the holidays, she seems to be saying.

Finally, I hope you all have enjoyed the occasional music selections I post from time to time. Just for you, I have found yet another gem. It's a little different (thought not as different as last post's, maybe)

Feel free to add this to your "songs to annoy your neighbors by" playlist...cause when I listen to this stuff...so do the neighbors.

Stay tuned!

Aye,
Kraneia
