#26: Rennies in Tennies

I look a bit dazed at 6 am don't I?
I woke Sunday before the alarm even went off. This happens a lot, and is annoying sometimes, especially when I have the alarm set early to begin with. With a sigh, I got up and poked Dent in the foot, since he insisted on being up early. Then I set to work on the costume....

First I dragged out the curlers and pulled some of my hair back. The hope was that it would fluff out a bit when I was done and cover up the seams where the ears met my head. I had moderate success, as you can see.

Next came the ears. I think I spent twenty minutes or so, finger and thumb pinched around an ear, waiting on the stuff to stick so that I could glue the bottom part on.

I think I did a bit better on the makeup this time. I remembered to put a little dab inside the end of my nose so it wasn't so pink this time. Remove the curlers and voila-instant faun.

Several hours later, we were sitting in the parking lot. It was colder than I thought it would be, and apparently we were early. I could have sworn the gates opened at 9...but apparently it was 10. So we sat and watched people pull in behind us. Fairies and pirates walked past, with a few Dr. Who's mixed in for good measure.

Dent put his pirate shirt over his sweatshirt. I chose to just leave my jacket on.

First order of business: ears for Dent. Why he has done this past few years is beyond me. This makes like the third pair he has.  It isn't like I couldn't of helped him put them on. I guess he wants the "professional" elf to do it. ;)

After that, we spent a while wandering around, looking for someone who does leatherwork. The bracer you see on his arm was too small (it's like 30 years old) and he wanted the arm straps changed out for longer ones so he could wear them again.

It was still a bit chilly in the shade, but sitting in the sun was a nice change. I was hoping it would warm up some.

This year included the usual mixture of performers, with a couple of new things thrown in. The map things they handed out at the gate advertised "Mermaids". I have to admit I wasn't terribly impressed when I saw them. While the watertight costumes were cool, the tank was barely big enough for them to swim in, and their "act" consisted of going between the top for air, and lying on the bottom blowing bubble rings. I guess if you are 5 years old it may be cool, I don't know.

I had a couple people compliment me on the costume, mostly small children. It's a little different at the Renaissance Faire, where there more people dressed in costume, than at the mall on Halloween, which is usually full of small kids dressed as Dora the Explorer and Paw Patrol. So I took what I could get.

I have to admit I got upstaged a bit by this fellow dressed as a dragon, but I don't mind. As I spent less than $10 on my costume...and his probably ranked up there a bit more, I am not complaining.

(Mort chimes in: "Eh, we don't take too much notice of dragons like him. All dragons are vain, but this one spent more time posing for photographs instead of gathering treasure. You'll never find *me* doing such a lowly thing!")

Already thinking of what to do next year...just in case I am still here.

Had to do the mugs a little differently this year. Usually I do a tankard and Dent gets a shot glass. But this being a special year apparently (25th anniversary) and it being almost over with (next weekend is it folks, go if you haven't already!) they were pretty much sold out of those. All they had left were the types you see here, and the castle tower looking ones. I was a little surprised, this is the first time I'd gone and they be out of pretty much everything. Even at the end they usually had more than these.

So I ended up with a goblet, and Dent ended up with a mini tankard (I guess it's kind of like a shot glass.... just with a handle ;) )

I thought the color combination was unusual, but I liked it.

I give Sunday 3/5 nose wiggles.
(Just made that up!)

Next stop: turkey day!

Aye,
Kraneia
