Last week's shit sleet storm |
The past couple of days have been unseasonably springlike. I guess I can't complain too much, since it is, strictly speaking, almost March. Still, I can't help but think we'll be paying for it later on. Seems like last week we had sleet; today and yesterday we had sun or mostly sunny, and highs near 65 or so. I spent yesterday doing that joy-of-joys, the yearly trimming of the pampas grass. You know, that stuff that, even if you're wearing long sleeves and long pants you still get the crap cut out of your extremities, as the sharp lil grass bastards work their way up your sleeves and pant legs? And don't get me started on how much I end up pulling out of my socks.....
So now I have fine little red marks all up my arms. People are going to think I cut myself or something. Trust me folks, I have 99 issues, but pain ain't one.
At any rate, by the end of a couple hours, the mess had been cleaned up and we had happy little clumps, or as I like to call them, "Magical green donuts". Because the stuff grows from the inside out, after a while the middles die out, and you have to clean out the rotten stuff, otherwise you get root rot and mosquitoes hiding in there.
The next few days it is supposed to be raining (again. Sigh.) The tree frogs, at least, are happy. I guess I will have to find indoor things to do again. Maybe the weather man will be wrong this time. Hey, a girl can dream, can't she? Stranger things have happened.

Still wondering about a garden this year. I still have all my herbs in buckets, and a few basil seeds that I can plant. But do I want to bother with anything else this year? Maybe I will concentrate on stuff that can be planted in the ground (preferably, stuff that is squirrel-and-groundhog-proof). We'll see how that goes.
Stay tuned!
Aye,
Kraneia
