#11: Steele Creek

Today's trailwork adventure involved working our way along the Steele Creek trail. Said creek was said to be impassible, however, due to the recent rains, and so we didn't go as far.

So I had to content myself with some of the other surroundings. Not much in the way of flowers this time of year (except for the lil swamp sunflowers and the galax), but there were plenty of mushrooms.

After meeting up for lunch, there was the resounding rumble rapidly approaching, of a thunderstorm. So the trudge back to our cars (about 2 miles or so) was spent with rain dripping off my hat into my eyes, my shoes sloshing in the rapidly forming puddles, and a bit of jumpiness everything lightning struck somewhere close.

I managed to remember my little poncho. While it didn't do a whole lot for me (my shorts still got a bit wet...) it did keep my pack dry, which was what I was really aiming for anyhow.

How cool is this stuff? Coral mushrooms. It's like a mini forest. My camera isn't so great at picking up little things, but this one turned out okay.

This one has to be my favorite though. He came to visit while we were eating lunch. Either he was thanking us for working, or interested in the salt/minerals on the gloves (or maybe a little of both?)

I have named him Spotty McFlutterbutt.

After hearing several people on the team talk about all the snakes they've been seeing out there lately, I was disappointed to not see any myself. But I guess that is all for the best.

I vaguely remember this song being played on the "oldies" station when I lived down at the beach. It's catchy enough to pick up the words after a couple of hearings. And somewhat unusual for Genesis to have done (at least in my opinion)
