Usually when I look there's the same number of folks, 10-20 of you, who check in periodically. I do appreciate it, even though no one really comments on anything. So I have no idea if it's the SAME 10-20 people, or just randoms passing through. And then there's August 31, 2023.
So what happened August 31, 2023? For some reason 11 THOUSAND of you stumbled on to this site. Was this International Weirdo Day and my site popped up first on Google? This was after the Sturgis' motorcycle rally, so it probably didn't have anything to do with motorcycles. I didn't even post that day; so I have no clue what drove y'all to it. Maybe someone out there attempted one of those denial-of-service things, where you jam the site with views til it crashes. Who knows.Daysoftheyear.com doesn't hold too many answers for that day; It is apparently National Trail Mix Day, which is a cause for celebration, but only if you like the stuff. National Eat Outside Day is also on August 31st. I guess y'all will have to go outside to eat that trail mix. OUT! Cause I'm tired of having to vacuum up the sunflower seeds and raisins y'all keep dropping on the carpet.
But I digress.
Moving on... my sproutling army is starting to make an appearance. The basils have sprouted; the peppers are beginning to; the rose seeds don't seem to be, however. I will give them another week or so and then if nothing happens, dump and try to grow something else. I also have various cuttings in a pot. Because you know us plant nerds can't throw any plant bits away, even if they're prunings.
Lead's Winterfest is this weekend! For those of y'all who don't know what that is, it's a little party they throw here. Those who had real trees during Christmas pile them up in the visitor center's parking lot (They're good and dry by now!) and have a bonfire. This is after they've set off the fireworks over the Big Hole. There will be much drinking and merriment (to keep warm next to the bonfire; it's supposed to be 12 degrees during the *day*) . It's kind of a "yeah, yeah. Winter. We're tired of it, can we have some spring now?" thing. My friend is coming to visit, which makes it even better. My only concern is that we haven't had much snow the past few days; so that sledding hill they build up on Alert Street may be kinda small. I have been assured by several people though, that the city has a snow stash somewhere. And currently we're looking at maybe some snow Friday evening. If the folks with the plows hustle in the morning it might be okay.
Today is Super Bowl Sunday, which means in a little while places like Walmart should be devoid of the menfolk as they cluster around the home idiot box altar chanting "first down. first down. first down." Sportsball. Yeah.
I have several books on order, but they haven't been shipped yet.
There is the vague notion that I need to start getting the downstairs bedroom into some sort of shape.
There are a lot of things that are "on the list" but the procrastination gods are doing their work today, so none of them are getting done. Maybe tomorrow. After I've had my daily bowl of trail mix.
Aye,
Kraneia
