This semester I am taking a class on grass. No, not THAT kind of grass. The other sort, the legal sort. The horticultural, wild prairie sort of stuff that the cows like to munch on. Of course since it's in the biology department there's a lab to go with it. So really it's two classes. Double the fun.
Also taking a couple of "interpretation" kind of classes, one for interpretative media for outdoor stuff (think brochures, websites, etc the national parks put out.) The other is "Environmental interpretation", which I guess is the other end of it--coming up for said content for signs, etc. It's all a little confusing, considering the exact same instructor teaches both, and I have them both on the same days.
And, of course, there's the "WTF" class--I have to take a statistics class. Math. Great. A new expensive calculator, so I can get the wrong answer faster. It annoys me because I already took a similar class, that should have counted for this. Of course, this was more than 10 years ago, so it isn't like I can just breeze through like it's a review. But if I can figure out all the nifty buttons on this new fangled calculator thing I will (hopefully) do all right. Cross your paws, and feel free to post links to videos on how to use the TI-84 Plus (I've found a few on youtube, but can always use more)
A wintery afternoon in Spearfish, SD. Shortly before everything got covered in snow. |
Work is....work. There are multiple food stations, and I have worked every one except the burrito station. Found out before Christmas break they're changing companies, so if I come back to work in the fall it may look totally different. Summer, of course, is reserved for working with the state parks, if I can get back in.
The season is progressing apace. It's bloody cold out today (10 degrees at the moment, according to my phone), but we've only have had a little snow. This isn't so great for the ski area, which has snow making machines but apparently aren't very good (very old and badly maintained).
Debating on what to grow this time around. I sprouted some fresh basil, that should take off as the daylight increases and it gets warmer. I took a chance around Thanksgiving and snagged some pomegranate seeds. Apparently if you scrape off the sweet stuff (called the aril), they'll grow, and sure enough, I have four little pomegranate plants growing. Go figure.
"Plants with Benefits" Sounds like a sex thing. |
I'm having a blast. I'm in college with folks half my age. Some of them are as old as my child. Good times.
At any rate, hoping all you Badhair Hooligans out there are staying warm and dry (or if you're in the south, at least dry).
Crank and Yank!
Aye,
Kraneia
