#59: Finding Faces

Fish Heads! Fish Heads! Roly Poly Fish Heads!
Pareidolia (/pærɪˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-DOH-lee-ə) is the tendency for incorrect perception of a stimulus as an object, pattern or meaning known to the observer, such as seeing shapes in clouds, seeing faces in inanimate objects or abstract patterns, or hearing hidden messages in music. Pareidolia can be considered a subcategory of apophenia.
Common examples are perceived images of animals, faces, or objects in cloud formations, the Man in the Moon, the Moon rabbit, and other lunar pareidolia. The concept of pareidolia may extend to include hidden messages in recorded music played in reverse or at higher- or lower-than-normal speeds, and hearing indistinct voices in random noise such as that produced by air conditioners or fans.
Pareidolia was at one time considered a symptom of human psychosis, but it is now seen as a normal human tendency.
Pareidolia is not confined to humans. Scientists have for years taught computers to use visual clues to "see" faces and other images.

Army Vehicle? Or angry bulldog transformer?
You decide.
There for a while, I made an attempt at an "artsy" kind of blog. I named it "Finding Faces", with photos of seemingly disparate things, that resembled faces or had facial expressions. I lost interest after a while and it kind of fizzled out. I knew there was a word for it, but am just finding it today.

It's kind of strange sometimes, that what we think we see isn't what it is at all. But it's fun nonetheless to imagine a face in places and on things where there isn't really one.

The human brain is kind of strange sometimes.

In other news, it is officially official. I am transferring "upstairs" to work with the custodians and leaving the dear folks in laundry. New boss is overjoyed, old one, not so much. Giving up my weekends again, but at least it's during the days. It's been okay so far, although I expect it will be a little more difficult once the season starts and more people come through the door. The pay is a little bit better and I am guaranteed hours, so hopefully that will offset the stress of dealing once again with <<shudder>> people again. Gonna be buying stock in "Tension Tamer" tea.

My Birthday came and went. A friend took me out to eat, but other than that it was pretty uneventful. I sure don't feel 45. I guess that's a good thing though. You're only as young as you feel. The spots on my belly are beginning to fade, although I doubt they will ever go away entirely.I refer to them as "battle scars" and will wear them proudly should it ever be warm enough here to dig out my swimsuit.

not sure if it wants me to plant it or give it a hug!
I have set up my plant grow light. I wasn't sure the plants I had brought were getting enough light, so I screwed in a couple coffee cup hooks underneath one of the shelves on the bookcase and hung it up. This will also come in handy should I choose to start some seeds in a month or so. Not sure if I want to try the gardening thing this year, or if I want to wait till things are a little more established. Right now it's snowing (again) and it will be a while, although spring is never far from my mind....

February 14 is fast approaching. Walmart, who had their Valentine's day crap out the day after Christmas, has giant stuffed llamas to go with their oversized sloths. I guess llamas are the "thing" that they think everyone wants this year.

Of course, they also have Mardi Gras, Saint Patrick's Day, and Easter stuff out, too. Kinda wondering why they don't just leave the Christmas stuff out year round. Lord knows there is always someone looking to buy Christmas crap all year round. They're starting to put out some of the seasonal spring/summer stuff, but it's understandably limited, since you probably won't be able to do much outside for a while anyway, with all the snow.

Shall we play a game....of hockey??
Stay warm out there in badhairland!
Drink plenty of warm stuff and keep those paws covered!
Aye,
Kraneia
